Old Town San Diego
Old Town San Diego

In 1769, Father Junípero Serra established the first of a chain of 21 missions that were the foundation of California’s colonization by Spain. Old Town is considered the birthplace of California, and began as a small community of adobe buildings. Walking the town is a living history lesson: Many of its adobe structures and Victorian homes have been restored, and museums line San Diego Avenue, the main thoroughfare.
