Exploring the Health Benefits of Ginseng Crocodile Soup
I was told Old Airport Road hawker center is one of the most authentic and least touristy in all of Singapore. What really intrigued me, though, was the chance to try crocodile.
I tentatively approached Crocodile Kingdom and ordered a Ginseng Crocodile soup. The chef warned it would be bitter, but, yes, I know—the more bitter, the better. Ginseng is good for you. Apparently, so is crocodile, at least according to the chef.
After chatting with the chef while he made up my bowl, he informed me he was throwing in some crocodile skin to try. Bonus.
I hate to say that the crocodile tasted like chicken, but it kind of did, although super tender, and bitter as promised. As for the croc skin—gelatinous, chewy, and I am sure very healthy. After all, the more bitter the better for you.
