So many people always say there is nothing to do in Kigali aside from visiting the memorial - that's so not true! I have found a great half day walking tour through an inner city suburb of Kigali. You are picked up from your hotel and transferred to the headoffice of a local women's cooperative where you learn about the history and see how your walking tour fees help these women to have a steady income. There are great handmade goodies you can buy made with love from colourful African fabrics - we loved the baby blankets! You will have a local English or French speaking guide who for around 2 hours shows your their community and teaches you about life in the suburbs of Kigali, Rwanda. You can have a optional lunch made by one of the mama's in her home which we highly recommend! There is even the option to either add-on or instead of a walking tour, to select traditional cooking lessons or basket weaving classes with these women. It's a great insight and cultural encounter with the locals of Kigali and you can even do the half day walking tour and lunch then head over to the memorial in the afternoon if you only have a day free in Kigali.
