Wonder what to do with all those old buttons? In Northern Cyprus (Turkish Cyprus) I saw a market in Nicosia that displayed these relics in a fun and colorful way. I love how the buttons are individually nailed, and can be purchased one by one, or as an artistic display.
Cyprus is not a highly developed tourism destination, but it has a lot to offer to those willing to seek out its many charms. When I visited this year, I stayed in Larnaca on the east side of the island. Inexpensive busses run frequently from Larnaca to all the major cities, including Nicosia, and Limassol. Nicosia was of prime interest to me because I wanted to see the only city that is the capital of two different states...Cyprus and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Here you can safely cross from Cyprus to Northern Cyprus with a border-issued visa. I particularly enjoyed the shopping in the streets of Nicosia in Northern Cyprus. I loved the Turkish shopping displays and their contrast to the Greek items for sale in Cyprus. I even discovered wonderful crochet wine glass holders that also make wonderful and unique Christmas ornaments. The buttons were my favorite though....I can only imagine the stories these buttons could tell.
