One of the most special gardens we've visited is also one of the less well-known. Jardin de la Petite Rochelle is a private garden that's open for only a handful of days every year, and we were fortunate to be travelling in the area on one of those days.
The afternoon we visited, we had these sprawling gardens almost entirely to ourselves. My husband and I loved the enormous variety of flowers and plants, including the enchantingly-named Fairy's Fishing Rods. Our daughters loved the magical fountains, ponds and hidden nooks. We all loved how each turn of the path uncovered new charms.
Typically, the gardens are open to the public about half a dozen weekends in the spring, and for a month from mid-July to mid-August.
