In the days when pirates prowled the Caribbean, the islands scattered along the Drake Channel made convenient hideouts. Pirate lore abounds in this region. Norman Island is thought to have inspired Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island, and legend has it that a fisherman once found a stash of doubloons in its sea caves. Today it’s a popular spot for snorkelers, who can swim inside the caves to explore. The largest cave extends about 21 meters (70 feet), and opens into a small chamber at the end.
