During my solo trip to Vietnam I ended up booking a day tour with the assistance of the hotel I was staying at to Ninh Binh, from Hanoi, my base city. It was a rainy day when we first started out. Our first stop was at Hoa Lu, which was the ancient capital of Vietnam. From there we went onto Ninh Binh, with a quick lunch stop along the way. Upon arrival we were paired up and ushered to the queue for boats and met our rower who was a kindly lady in her early forties. My Danish companion and I enjoyed a relaxing hour on the water meandering through the lush and rugged limestone mountains, while conversing in poor French with our capable rower and navigator.
