Within the walls of the historic Tivoli Gardens sits this Moorish-inspired house, built in 1909 for the Nimb family’s culinary empire. Restored and reopened in 2008, it’s now an intimate tribute to the vintage amusement park, classic Danish style, and the gourmet dining that made the Nimb name. Each of the 17 rooms has been impeccably and distinctly decorated in dark woods, rich fabrics, and just a hint of the building’s Orientalist theme—in other words, it’s hardly what you’d expect in a city known for its mid-century aesthetic, and, in breaking the mold, it’s one of the city’s most exquisite hotels. The whole place oozes elegance, from the patio dining overlooking the gardens to the anything-you-can-imagine concierge and butler service.

Most impressively, the hotel manages to cater to both couples and families, with equal ease. As the only hotel in Tivoli, the Nimb would seem a natural fit for a family getaway, and some of the suites are certainly big enough to accommodate children, but the hotel never skimps on the romance and above-and-beyond service, either.

Neighborhood Vibe
Situated inside the walls of the 19th-century amusement park Tivoli Gardens, practically in the center of Copenhagen, the Nimb puts guests within walking distance of nearly all the city’s major sites. The park still has working rides, and it regularly hosts concerts and other events. In addition to the hotel’s own restaurants, classic Danish eatery Grøften is also within Tivoli and serves top-notch smørrebrød. The Danish Design Center, featuring a range of exhibits on the country’s interior design history, is just outside the park’s walls, and the main Copenhagen train station sits on the other side.

Dining options: Thanks to its location within Tivoli Gardens, Nimb has a wide range of drinking and dining options—more than the average 17-room boutique hotel might have. The Nimb Brasserie serves gourmet French fare all day long in an airy dining room. Off the lobby, the cozy yet elegant Nimb Bar offers cocktails, champagne, light bites, high tea, and, on weekends, a decadent brunch amid fireplaces and plush sofas. Downstairs, in the underground wine cellar, Vinotek has an exceptional—and extensive—wine list, paired with classic snacks. The Bar’n’Grill serves steaks and seafood, plus a full range of wines and cocktails at the bar. In the middle of the old gardens, next to the lake, the casual and refined Nimb Terrasse serves a regularly changing menu of small plates made entirely from locally sourced ingredients.
Spa and gym details: The hotel has neither a spa nor a gym, but it does have vintage-style, handmade bicycles available to rent.
