Fall colors in Nikko, Japan
Just a couple hours drive from Tokyo, Nikko is the perfect place to see Japan's brilliant fall colors while visiting the famed Toshogu and Rinnoji shrines. Dazzling maple reds and radiant gingko yellows are everywhere, making for an unforgettable sight. When you are able to peel yourself away from this gorgeous scenery, you will see the original carving of the famous 3 monkeys (Don't hear evil. Don't speak evil. Don't see evil). And the best experience of all is standing underneath the intricately carved "Twilight gate" at Toshogu shrine. The story goes that the gate is so sumptuously beautiful that one can get lost in time when sitting undernearth and they won't realize it until way past twilight. Hence the name "Twilight gate"!
