Even in tourist traps, there are often ways to find things typical tourists will miss. Wall St. has several local favorites for a more authentic experience. Outside of Federal Hall, directly across the street from the New York Stock Exchange, is a statue commemorating the spot where George Washington took the oath of office for his presidency. Quite often, there will be a man solemnly playing his flute at the base of the pedestal. He is playing Battle Hymn of the Republic, a rallying song for the forefathers of the nation. It's a reminder of how much importance Americans have come to place on money and greed that is dominated by the decisions made just feet from the statue.
