Intimate Manhattan Art Museum featuring German and Austrian Modern Art
Neue Galerie New York is a museum devoted to early twentieth-century German and Austrian art and design. Located in a renovated landmark 1914 town house on Fifth Ave at 86th (two short blocks from the Met), the museum consistently presents high quality exhibitions of German Expressionism and Jugenstil visual arts, architecture and decorative arts.
The museum also offers a well stocked gift shop and two excellent cafes, Café Fledermaus and Café Sabarsky, which serve lunch, dinner and fine patisserie in a setting recalling turn-of-the- century Vienna.
If you count Kirchner, Klimt, Klee, Beckmann, Schiele, Dix et. al. among your friends, short of a trip to Germany or Vienna, the Neue Gallerie can't be beat.
