Nelson’s Dockyard

Dockyard Drive, Antigua and Barbuda

One of the top attractions on Antigua, this complex of naval buildings dating back to the 1700s recently became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. An ode to the island’s maritime history, the dockyard also features shopping and dining. A marquee feature is the Dockyard Museum, housed in the former Admiral’s House; it offers displays that outline the importance of the fortification here in English Harbour. Of particular note is the telescope of Admiral Horatio Lord Nelson, the namesake commander of the port from 1784 to 1787.
