Museu Centro Cultural João Fona

The walls of Santarém's municipal museum—housed inside a bright yellow 19th-century riverfront mansion (the third-oldest structure in town)—are covered with frescoes painted by Pará artist João Fona, from whom the museum gets its name. Highlights here include a fascinating collection of clay and stone artifacts from the Tapajoara culture that ruled these parts more than 6,000 years ago.
