Amber Museum

Two blocks from the central square of Puerto Plata stands a stately Victorian mansion. Built in 1919 by German brothers who came to the Dominican Republic to invest in the sugar trade, it was a private home that today serves as a celebration of all things amber. Guides explain the gem’s origin—it’s actually fossilized sap—and highlight some of the most impressive pieces, including an ancient lizard trapped in the resin.
