Learn more about the history of the Caribbean and the Americas at the Museo de las Américas, in Old San Juan. The museum is located on the second floor of a historic building, the Ballajá Barracks, which housed Spanish soldiers in the 1800s. One permanent exhibit describes the cultures and histories of various indigenous tribes, including the local Taino. Other exhibits explore the African slave trade in and around Puerto Rico and traditional folk art in the New World.
