Spectacular view from the Muktinath shrine in Lower Mustang of Nepal
While participating in a Restoration Works International volunteer trip to the Chhairo Gompa we took a day trip into the mountains. We hired a jeep, the road bounced us around like marbles in a tin can but the view was worth it.
The Muktinath Temple (not pictured) is sacred to both Buddhists and Hindus—it was impressive to see this holy place, shared by followers of the two religions with mutual respect and support.
Muktinath is located at an altitude of 3,710 meters (12,171 feet) at the foot of the Thorong La mountain pass on the Annapurna trekking circuit. From its promontory, there are spectacular views.
