Alpacas are my favorite animal: they're cute, fluffy, and friendly. Taiwan apparently has a few places with alpacas, and the Papaya River Bed and Breakfast in Hualian is one of them.
The bed and breakfast is run by a very kind couple. Accommodations are clean and comfortable. Across the street from the main building is the alpaca pasture. Patrons can go hang out with the alpacas at any time for as long as they please during their stay. In the early mornings workers will take patrons to feed the alpacas, too. Oh, and there are dogs, one in particular named Tiger that is quite awesome.
Borrow bikes from the owners and bike around town. The bed and breakfast is situated in the middle of a lot of rice patties, making it very quiet and relaxing.
Getting to Papaya River is easy: take the Taiwan Rail to Jian Station (吉安), one stop south of Hualian. When you make your reservation let the owners know on what train you're coming in and they'll pick you up from the station.
