Mr Ganga had a cousin who was having a special annual blessing ceremony at his home temple. So he asked us if we would like to go to be a part of it. We were unsure of what to expect as we climbed the steep stairs into the home. Mr Ganga introduced his cousins (some of whom spoke English) and they offered us yak tea and various sweets. Then we went to the temple room in the house. In the room a number of monks sat chanting and playing instruments to bless the shrine and the family for the following year. Mr Ganga sat down and played a clarinet like instrument along with the monks. After we left he told us that the family felt very lucky to have two Americans visit because offering hospitality to outsiders was something that made "merit" and the timing of our visit was auspicious. We felt we were the lucky ones to have been invited into their home at such a special time.
