Designed by renowned landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, Oakland’s Mountain View Cemetery, completed in 1863 is the final resting place for some of California’s most famous residents including Charles Crocker, Bernard Maybeck, Anna Head, Henry Kasier, and Julia Morgan. This is a beautiful place to jog, walk your dog, bird watch (lots of wild turkeys) or just sit and contemplate with a cup of coffee. From the top you have a view of San Francisco and the entire Bay. A very meditative spot. Guided and self-guided tours offered for those wanting to learn more about Olmsted’s vision, the architecture or the history of the cemetery & its “residents.”
