Mount Rokko

The Japanese like to be able to take the long view; luckily, almost every spot in the country is surrounded by heavily forested mountains, most of them untouched by loggers. You don’t have to work too hard for this particular view, either, because there’s a cable car. Rokko tops out a bit below 1,000 meters (3,300 feet), offering fantastic views of Kobe and the ocean beyond if you look one way, and ever more mountains if you look the other. There are tourist attractions up there, too—including Japan’s first golf course.
