In an archipelago loaded with volcanic wonders, Mount Bromo, which looms 2,329 meters (7,641 feet) high, is hardly the highest. Located in East Java, southwest of Probolinggo, it is Indonesia’s most iconic and perhaps its most scenic volcano, however—and all that despite the fact that its top has long since been blown into oblivion. People love to visit the still-active volcano for sublime sunrise views of the cone and spectacular surrounding panoramas.
