For my day away, I went to Silverton, OR. On the way is Mt. Angel. I had never been to either place but heard about an abbey of Benedictine monks. I couldn't pass it by. This abbey was established in 1882 by the Abbey of Engelberg, Switzerland. It has its own postal code and sits atop a hill overlooking the entire valley. What really caught my attention was the on-site museum that held everything from Mexican souvenirs to the largest hairball in the world from a pigs stomach! There are a couple of mutant calf taxidermy mounts that would make the folks at Obscura drool, as well as other world-class mounts and a mineral collection that would make most hounds drool. Really weird. Really neat. Really Oregon.
