The Serra de S. Mamede is considered a sanctuary of the chestnut tree.
A tree that can live thousands of years, its fruit is widely appreciated and cooked in many ways.
We challenge you to come and discover the secrets of a chestnut grove.
The activity will the place in a chestnut grove in the natural park of S.Mamede.
Each participant will have the opportunity to see the major Chestnut species and the dynamics of the grove. You’ll also have the chance to observe trees in different stages of development: healthy and some showing signs of disease.
We’ll also observe the grounds infested with mushrooms who are beneficial to the plants and can be commercialized as edible mushrooms.
If you decide to do this activity during the harvest period, you’ll also be invited to help in picking this wonderful fruit from the trees.
The course will finish with a marvellous tasting of chestnuts if the event is done during the harvest period of the chestnuts tree (Autumn).
