Exploring Moorea's Lagoon by Jet Ski with Snorkeling and Shark Swimming Stops
A highlight of my recent trip to Moorea was exploring its beautiful lagoon by Jet Ski with Moorea Jet Ski. Not only did this experience meet my need for a little adrenaline boost after a week of eating and lounging in paradise – there is something thrilling about hitting the throttle and racing across a turquoise and aquamarine streaked, quiet, glassy sea – but it also allowed for more ground to be covered quickly. Which meant there was plenty of time for shallow-water swimming with black-tipped reef and lemon sharks and friendly rays. The one pictured here is named Lucy and she's in her twenties and absolutely loves people, she would come up and just give kisses. And stopping for a snorkel amid the coral in a slightly deeper area.
The company is very professional and safety focused, and although you get to drive your own Jet Ski, and they'll let you go fast, you still follow in a line behind the guide and have a driving lesson before taking off. Guides speak excellent English.
Make sure to bring a camera – there is a waterproof compartment to store electronics. Water and lots of sunscreen are also highly recommended, as is wearing a shirt while riding to avoid burning too badly. The sun is beyond bright.
