Although only about 15 minutes from downtown Napa, by the time you get to the gates of Meteor Vineyard, you may wonder if you are still in Napa Valley. Where are the balloons and crowded tasting rooms and stretch limos? Not in Coombsville. One of the newer wines in this region, the vineyard sits atop a small hill with excellent views of the San Pablo Bay. The vines were planted by Mike Wolf, the man responsible for cult wines like Screaming Eagle. And Dawnine Dyer, the former winemaker for Domaine Chandon, and her husband Bill (Sterling Vineyards) make the Cabernet Sauvignon from the estate. The wines are excellent, the setting beautiful and intimate.
