There are only five merlions recognized by the Singapore Tourism Board, and the one that stands at Merlion Park is the original.
Half lion, half fish, the merlion is the national symbol of Singapore, a representation of Singapore's origins as a fishing town and original name Singapura, which means lion city.
Take a stroll around the waterfront area. Grab a drink and/or snack and enjoy the view. From Merlion Park you get an excellent view of the durian-shaped Esplanade and Marina Bay Sands hotel. In the distance you can see the Singapore Flyer as well as the Gardens by the Bay.
