The botanical gardens at Brüglingen are a year-round treat, home to a variety of plants from around the world. The park is also an occasional venue for various concerts and events, such as classical music on Sundays, June through August.
A ramble through the gardens can give you an entirely different view of Basel. Visit in May and enjoy a seasonal plantings on the lawn in front of the Villa Merian, or a ramble through plantings of peonies or a terraced Mediterranean garden. There's a well-labeled, aromatic herb garden, too, and a sprawling English garden with a lily pond under enormous shade trees.
Café Merian is a great place for a break after meandering through the beautifully tended gardens. The café offers light fare with Mediterranean flair on its terrace is behind the Villa Merian, with a view over the lily pond.
To get to Brüglingen via public transport, take trams, buses or the S-Bahn to the Dreispitz or St. Jakob stations.
