It's All About White Wines at Napa's Mason Cellars
In the city of Napa, just down the street from the foodie haven Oxbow Public Market, is an unpretentious and friendly wine tasting room. Mason Cellars forgoes the contemporary decor of Napa's tasting rooms for something more rustic and country, including the down-to-earth tasting room managers. This family-run winery offers good wines at very reasonable prices; in fact, the winery has not raised prices since the 1990s, and it's the only tasting room in the area with free tastings.
They pride themselves on their Sauvignon Blancs and have three of them, allowing the visitor to notice how three wines that come from the same fruit can taste different. If you want an easy-drinking white for a hot California day, try the Pinot Grigio, and if you hope to pair your wine with seafood, try the Pomelo Sauvignon Blanc, which actually won the Oyster Award because it pairs so well with them.
