Shopper’s delight in the souqs
Marrakesh has been a trading city for over a thousand years, and tourists are only the latest visitors out to snag a bargain. Half the medina seems full of wonderful things to buy, with shopkeepers trying to reel you in to sample their wares – a parade of Berber rugs, apothecaries offering herbal remedies, painted tajine dishes and leatherwork in a dozen bright colors. Haggling for your prize is half the fun – expect plenty of mock outrage from the shopkeeper as your present your counter to his ‘best price’ and then smiles all round after you close the deal.
