The Maritime Museum is famous for its restoration and operation of historic seafaring vessels, and hosts the largest tall-ship festival on the West Coast each Labor Day weekend. As well as checking out permanent exhibits at the museum (archives and objects are aboard the legendary ferry Berkeley), visitors can even book a tall-ship adventure of their own, aboard the gold-rush-era cutter replica Californian. Don’t miss the Star of India, the world’s oldest active sailing ship and the museum’s marquee attraction; it sailed around the world 21 times as one of the last tea-clipper ships used in trade with Asia.
