Marczyk Fine Foods is a Denver treasure, boldly opening a small gourmet neighborhood grocery in this time of Whole Foods Everywhere. But the Marczyk brothers and Pete's wife Barb, have created a new Denver institution, helping transform Denver's Uptown neighborhood with great finds from around the world and, especially, locally grown produce and other Colorado goods—even produce grown across the street from a neighbor's urban garden. As it says on their sign: "Not everything, just what you need."
Friday nights during the summer are the best, when they close off the parking lot, roll out the grills and host Burger Night, with picnic tables, dogs and kids sharing the sidewalk. Touring bands even stop by for a bite to eat before they play at the nearby Ogden and Fillmore Auditorium.
They have their own wine shop, with wines you've never heard of, all reasonably priced great finds from around the world. They've since opened a second store, not far away on Colfax Avenue, about a mile away. What a refreshing, family-owned business!
