I never realized it until recently, but when I eat at the Mandarin Buffet, near Woodbine Race Track, I am actually supporting a local business.
Mandarin Buffet started in Brampton around 1979 as a small a la carte restaurant, and that’s where its headquarters and flagship eatery is. Since then, it has expanded to twenty locations across southern Ontario.
So I’m doing my bit to support local business, and in the process, getting a delightful dining experience! My family even has a tradition of descending upon the Mandarin for their buffet at least once a year for one person's birthday.
The buffet offers typical Chinese dishes, such as mixed vegetables, Won Ton soups, chicken balls, and chow mein. There's also grilled steaks, roast beef, and a dessert display that features no less than thirty different delectable treats. During certain traditional festivals they take things up a notch; for example, during the Moon Festival they offer all-you-can-eat crab legs.
This, dear reader, is no ordinary buffet.
