Malt is one of the newest bars in town serving a range of excellent craft beers. Craft beer is becoming huge in Saigon, and it seems there's a new place opening up every month or so which is making my husband extremely happy. But for those who aren't beer lovers, there's also an extensive range of single malt whiskeys, signature cocktails and more. They must have the longest happy hour in town. It starts at 9 am and runs through to 7 pm. But it's not just about the drinks for us. In fact, I'm not drinking at the moment until I publish my next book. The bar just seems to have a great feel to it. We've been back a few times now and are starting to meet and chat with the regulars. Everyone we've spoken to seems to agree it has a great atmosphere. From the casual interior to the friendly, efficient staff (with excellent English) and good music (in my opinion!), everything just gels. Teamed with a delicious bar menu (including a dozen flavors of chicken wings and a mix and match breakfast till 4.30 pm) ), Malt makes an excellent choice for taking the load off after a hard day sight-seeing in downtown Ho Chi Minh City. Added bonuses include a great location right in the center of District 1, a non-smoking interior and, best of all, a custom made shuffleboard table. As an Aussie, I'd never played the game before. But I have to admit it's just slightly addictive. We've now been there four times and are mightily impressed. I'm pretty sure we'll be back many times more so if you drop in to take a look, say hello if you spot me.
