I Dream of Mysore
Cruising up Las Virgenes Road from Malibu’s beaches, keep your eyes peeled on the right for the unexpected sight of the Malibu Hindu Temple. If you reach Mulholland Highway you’ve gone too far, but it’s worth doubling back for a quick visit to this serene temple. Turn onto Las Virgenes Canyon Road to enter the complex. Built in traditional South Indian style, the temple is dedicated to the Hindu God Venkateswara. Visitors are welcome, provided they respect the sanctity of this place of worship. Dress modestly, and make sure your shoulders and legs are covered. Follow the lead of others and leave your shoes outside the entrance. A hose and basin are provided so that you may wash your feet. Breathe in the sweet scent of incense, and gaze up at the highly ornamented Dravidian-syle towers juxtaposed against a blue sky. May all beings be happy.
