I saw a huge crowd of people clotted out front of a typical-looking building in the city center of Porto: detailed in gorgeous architecture of a bygone era, gilded accents, columns, busts. Basically everything that exists in Europe that is too old-fashioned for the young buck of the USA.
I didn't pay much attention, thinking it was some tourist trap or museum, as people were crawling the area like ants with their cameras on this sunny Saturday afternoon.
Tuesday morning, around 10:00, I walked past again to see a near-empty front patio and a bustling crowd inside, but nothing too unmanageable. Traveling alone, I was able to scoot right in and nab a travel along the wall, catching the attention of a server. I ordered an espresso right away and studied the sheer magic of the inside of this place.
Pictures don't do this café justice, and neither do mere words. It's elegant, it's classy, it's crowded, but it's okay. It's worth it. Go for the scenery and the atmosphere.
