The big winter draw in Baja California Sur is whale watching. Magdalena Bay, with its entrance to the Pacific Ocean, is a favorite for female whales to calve and nurse their babies until they can make the trip north in the spring. Every other year the females mate. Mating behavior is a syrup-slow series of movements involving two males and one female. Boat tours are easy to arrange and though the weather can be chilly, the beaches are a great place to camp.
