This rooftop bar is THE place people dress up in Victorian costume for (not talking Halloween) and is just as fun as it's menu-which includes descriptions with "!!!" Seriously.
Quite classy, the cocktails for "two players" or "playing doubles" are not just the simple, expected ingredients, served by waitresses (mostly art students) who look like they are dressed as cigarette girls from the roaring '20s.
Scene: pretty trippy...golf grass, curvy white wrought iron furniture, 'yellow brick' road leading though a garden of tables...Rooftop hang-out, we went here twice during our visit in Melbourne. We sat outside both times, during the day when an entourage of conservative tarts and vicars came dressed, and in the evening soaking in the night skyline of Melbourne.
On the menu? MADAME PLANTERS PUNCH "Imagine a crisp clean white linen suit, a Panama hat, a fine cigar and a long refreshing icy cold planters punch. I will definitely make time for a gentleman with taste as refined as this. Using the best of light and dark rums, Amaretto, orange liqueur, mint, orange & bitters, all topped with soda.
Mr. Planter thank-you for being so sexy I want to take you home...but oh! I did! He was only 21 and root-bound!!!"
YES, fun indeed and worthy of going back for seconds.
