Hiking up the river bed in the Khasi Hills
We visited the Khasi Hills in Meghalaya in Northern India to see the amazing living root bridges. It felt like you were in another world, almost like a fairytale - where the vegetation is lush, birds chirping, butterflies in the air, the sounds of water flowing, and kindest and generous people to welcome and guide you. Since it was the dry season we were able to hike along the riverbed to see four different bridges in the area - hopping from rock to rock, hoping that you wouldn't lose your footing. The journey from bridge to bridge was quite strenuous but worth it once you reached another bridge. Just an overall out of this world experience. If you're interested in exploring this region, I recommend connecting with James, owner of Cultural Pursuits. His knowledge of the area is amazing and he will connect you with local guides and an opportunity to immerse yourself into the Khasi culture. It's best to show up to this region with no set itinerary and just live in the moment.
