Liberty House Restaurant is an oasis in the city. Take a seat outside and enjoy not only the view but the life-sized chess game, the fire pits in the evening and, if you're lucky, some live music.
While it's always busy, this is the place for outdoor dining with a view. It will be worth the likely wait—not necessarily for a table but on a busy day the service can be slow so don't hesitate to order two drinks at once. The food is nice but won't blow you away, so it's a great spot for a drink. Sit back, enjoy the slow pace (it's like being on vacation from Manhattan) and the gorgeous views.
Jersey Shore has given the Jerz such a bad name, but keep an open mind, head down to the World Financial Center, hop on a ferry (details below) and get off to the most spectacular views of downtown Manhattan.
Liberty House Restaurant is an oasis in Liberty State Park in Jersey City. The seemingly endless parade of weddings would normally send me running but they do a great job of keeping the weddings contained while still delivering delicious food and drinks in the restaurant.
To get there from Manhattan you want to take the Liberty Landing Ferry: the yellow ferry that leaves from WFC. It's a $14 round trip fare and about a 5-10 minute ride. Make sure you get off at the second stop on the Liberty State Park side and the restaurant is just ahead of you.
