For centuries a celebratory drink in Paris has meant champagne. Until very recently, the only place to go for a decent cocktail was the Hemingway Bar at the Ritz, which closed in 2012 for a historic renovation. Fortunately, there are now hotels offering decent alternatives with plush, cosy bars at L’Hotel and the Meurice, or hip, trendy bars at Mama Shelter and Hotel Costes. Even better, there are now dimly lit, terribly romantic cocktail bars all over the city serving fabulous drinks to a fun, relaxed crowd. The movement was led by Experimental Cocktail Club and quickly perfected by Glass, Beef Club Ballroom, Castor Club and L’Entrée des Artists. La Vue, Quarante Trois and Terrass Hotel add a stunning view of Paris to their delectable mixes.
