Located in Del Mar, Les Artistes Inn provides a retreat from city life. A dozen rooms are named after famous artists, from Vincent Van Gogh and Paul Gauguin to Diego Rivera and Georgia O’Keeffe. Each draws inspiration from its namesake and has its own personality. The O’Keeffe room, for example, is decorated in the Santa Fe style to pay homage to Georgia’s famous New Mexico flower paintings, and a back deck provides garden views. The Monet room is appropriately designed in French country style and overlooks a pond. When booking, you can request the room that fits the ambience you’re looking for.
Relax in the sunny courtyard during the day or around the fire pit at night. You can also wander around the property admiring such architectural details as colorful mosaics, beautiful stonework, and hacienda-style tiles. Once you’re ready to venture into the real world, shops, dining spots, and beaches are all within walking distance.

Less than a half-hour drive north of San Diego, the small community of Del Mar makes an idyllic place to relax and unwind. Get the lay of the land by going for a walk on the bluffs before staking a spot on the beach. During the winter in nearby Torrey Pines, try to spot migrating gray whales from the coast or sign up for a whale-watching tour. For an activity you can do year-round, check out Torrey Pines Gliderport and go tandem paragliding or hang gliding for amazing aerial views of the coast. More adventurous souls can even sign up for flight school to glide solo.
