In 1899, the cabaret, Moulin Rouge (red mill) opened in Paris.
Moulin Rouge is near Montmartre. The cabaret is located in the Pigalle district and you can see the famous red windmill on the cabaret roof.
This was the birthplace of the can-can revue. Today, there are the revues and musical shows.
Many artists such as Toulouse-Lautrec painted the windmill in paintings and posters.
Some of the stars who have performed at the Moulin Rouge were the French singer, Edith Piaf, Lauren Bacall, Ella Fitzgerald, and Elton John.
While touring Montmartre, I passed the cabaret and was fascinated by the legendary windmill that stood on top of the theatre. I had seen the pictures of the Moulin Rouge so many times and was thrilled to be there right in front of this great tourist attraction.
If you like can-can, you should take in the world-renowned show at the Moulin Rouge while in Paris.
