Because mooncakes are so time-intensive to create, most families purchase them, rather than making them at home. One of the best spots in Hong Kong to sample these treats is at the modern Langham Place Hotel, or try its sister property, the elegant Langham Hong Kong hotel.
Executive Chef Kwong Wai Keung and team make two or three flavors each year—a more traditional custard mooncake and a white lotus seed option that has double egg yolks inside. They can be eaten at the property’s Michelin star Cantonese restaurant Ming Court and also may be purchased in gift boxes sets of eight, which is an auspicious number for Chinese culture. You can also snag a box of the chef’s cute mini mooncakes as a fun souvenir for friends and family back home.
