Many people visiting Reston for the first time spend most of their day shopping or eating at restaurants. However, there are several outdoor excursions that offer great views of the area. Lake Fairfax is one of the best examples of this. Unless there is a major storm, the park is open daily from dawn to dusk.
The 476-acre park and 20-acre fishing lake make this the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Families tend to gravitate toward the Swimmin’ Hole, and there are also boat rentals, athletic fields, playgrounds, campgrounds, a skatepark, and a carousel nearby.
The Water Mine Family Swimmin’ Hole has a large lazy river, slides, tunnels, and games designed for young children. One thing to note is that you must have a Virginia State fishing license to fish on the lake.
