The Vielle Bourse building, seated right in the bustling Grand Place, conceals one of my favorite parts of this city. In the courtyard you’ll find a quiet market of books, posters, and antique trinkets that is easy to browse for hours on end. I always make sure to take a detour through when I have an unhurried walk through the center of Lille. I usually make a beeline for the boxes and boxes of cool vintage postcards – I love to read the backs and become part of strangers’ conversations! On a slow sunny day, you can often find a small crowd gathered to witness an intense match at one of the several chessboards. Every time I go, there is something new to browse – definitely worth a peek!
