La Jolla Children's Pool: No Swimming Allowed!
Without a doubt, San Diego is one of the best vacation destinations for families in the United States. Not only is the weather almost guaranteed to be sunny and (reasonably) warm, but there's tons for you to keep the kids entertained and having fun. Sea World, the San Diego Zoo and Balboa Park are all "must-sees" for any family vacationing in the area. With all these attractions to keep you busy, sometimes it's easy to overlook what's available in nearby La Jolla. Not only is the town one of the prettiest (and hippest) in all of California, but it's the beach that you can't even walk on that will have the kids—and their parents—super excited. Because a large harbor seal population has taken residence on the beach that was originally conceived as a protected swimming area for children, visitors are roped off from getting too close to the marine life. That doesn't mean you can't get a great view. The kids will soon realize that seeing wild animals in their natural environment is much more special than in captivity. The downside is, it might make them scared to enter the water. That's OK. La Jolla Cove and Shores are perfectly fine for strolling and exploring all the fascinating features that reside outside the waters. And stick around for sunset if you can. It's one of the most dramatic in the country!
