We spent two nights at La Fortuna at the end of a very active holiday in Guatemala, and we were ready for a break. As soon as our boat pulled up at the dock, we knew we were in for something very special.
La Fortuna is in a secluded cove off Lake Atitlan. It's surrounded by mountains on three sides and the lake on the fourth. Although there are four bungalows, we felt very much like we were the only guests there - like being pampered guests at someone's elegant and simple cottage.
We enjoyed breakfast and dinner on the privacy of our own porch - and the picture above shows the view we enjoyed while we ate. (I'm sure all the bungalows are lovely, but having stayed in the Lakeside Suite, I'd stay again in a heartbeat.)
Our hike to the summit of the property was robust, and we were rewarded with a gorgeous view in every direction. And there isn't a shortage of day trips in the area. But some of our happiest moments were spent simply appreciating this beautiful property - paradise indeed!
