Whilst in Cassis, France, we were lucky enough to eat spectacular food every day--for every meal. It was a culinary journey like no other. Every night was a new meal, at a new restaurant. That is, except for the repeat dinners at La Cigale et la Fourmie.
Hidden on a street corner, the gorgeously cosy restaurant is managed by one waitress who is more than willing to answer any and all questions in a combination of French and English. The chef and the owner are both friendly and very talented.
But the food. Oh, the food.
On recommendation from our lovely waitress, we ordered the "house" salad. With a base of incredibly fresh greens and tomatoes, the salad was decorated and accentuated with blueberries, goat's cheese, various meats, cantaloupe, red berries, and an irreplaceable balsamic glaze.
It was the best salad that I was lucky enough to eat in Cassis.
The main meals are just as spectacular, particularly the pastas.
It's more than worth a visit, if not for the food, then for the atmosphere and a chat with the staff. They're a lovely bunch of people who create incredible food. It's as simple as that.
