For over 100 years, this confectionery has been cooking up their original caramel recipe for generations of Nicaraguans. Cajeta means "little box" in Spanish. You'll find many orange cajetas to choose from; these heavenly delights come in the classic dulce de leche flavor, coconut, sweet potato, zapoyol (made from the sapote fruit), chocolate and more.
Making cajeta is a tedious process: an hour of continuous stirring per batch. So, go enjoy the fruits of Casa's labor of love. Diriomo is just off the main road from Mombacho to Masaya, well worth the 10-minute detour.
