Kushiro Shitsugen National Park

You can explore Japan’s largest and most spectacular wetlands on a visit to Kushiro Shitsugen National Park in eastern Hokkaido. There are well-placed observation points in the hills around the wetlands to observe fauna and flora—including some 600 species of plants. But the low and quiet vantage point of a canoe on a paddling trip along the Kushiro River is an ideal way to view the diverse creatures that dwell here, including the Hokkaido deer, Japanese crane and white-tailed sea eagle.
